The preservation of Endemic Ruminant Livestock (ERL) is an important issue for both Africa and other parts of the world since it is a highly diverse genetic treasure and virtually unique. Indeed, the endemic ruminant trypanotolerant carry genes that confer resistance to diseases such as trypanosomiasis, endoparasitoses and dermatophilosis. In addition, these animals have other attributes particularly important to enable them to adapt to prevailing environmental conditions in the sub-humid zone, such as high humidity and a diet low threshold. these unique genetic characteristics have been developed exclusively in habitats west Africa, particularly in parts of the Gambia, Guinea, Mali, and Senegal, through three races: N'Dama (cattle), Djalonké (sheep) and the Dwarf (West African goat).
