Regional Coordinating Unit (RCU)

 

The Regional Coordination Unit (RCU), based at ITC in Banjul, is responsible for the technical coordination, monitoring of overall implementation as well as of financial and accounting management of the project. It is relayed, in each country, by a National Coordination Unit (NCU), hosted within the Ministry in charge of livestock and at sites level by site teams. The RCU has 2 regional coordinators (one for the GEF and for AfDB), 3 experts (monitoring and evaluation, information-communication and capacity building and institutional development), a Head of finance and administration. The NCUs are composed by a national coordinator, 3 experts (monitoring and evaluation, natural resource management and animal production), a head of finance and administration. The site teams are under the responsibility of a site coordinator assisted by 2 technicians (NRM and livestock) and 3 animators. At each level, teams are supported by general services staff (drivers, assistants, watchman etc.).

 

In addition, the Regional Coordination Unit acts to coordinate a political, legal and institutional activities between PROGEBE counterparts in Senegal, Gambia, Mali and Guinea.  Consultation frameworks will be used to raise awareness and mobilize, exchange and lobby for the development and implementation of policies, regulations and legislation at local, national and regional levels.
